Why can’t we just use Stellar gateways to synthetically represent any asset and trade over their DEX? Everybody can just come to one place and one UX.
Issuing synthetic IOU’s simply doesn’t match everyones usecase. If I’m buying a digital non-fungible token such as an ingame item that has value (on a protocol that isn’t stellar), then I don’t want a synthetic representation of that token, I want custody of the actual token.
Different protocols will be optimised for different tasks and no single blockchain can capture every use case, that’s why the interledger provides an interoperable layer.
